Kendall E. Moranville, the son of Dr. E.C. and Grace (Scherzinger) Moranville, was born August 1, 1932 at Guide Rock, Nebraska. He departed this life on May 7, 2001 at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 6 days. He graduated from the Guide Rock High School in 1950, and attended Hastings College until 1953, when he entered the Naval Air Cadet Program. He received his wings in 1954, and served in the United States Navy until his retirement on October 1, 1988, attaining the rank of Vice Admiral.
He served on various ships and stations in the Atlantic and Pacific fleets, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. His commands included Attack Squadron Thirty Seven; Commander, Carrier Air Wing Seven; Commanding Officer Naval Air Station Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Florida; Commander, Carrier Group IV; Commander THIRD Fleet headquartered in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and Commander, SIXTH Fleet headquartered in Gaeta, Italy.
His decorations include Defense Superior Service Medal; Legion of Merit; Air Medal; Navy Commendation Medal; and Joint Service Commendation Medal.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Katherine Eleanor Haney; brother H. Blake Moranville; and an infant brother, Michael Andre Moranville.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Rita of Guide Rock, Nebraska; a daughter Pamela Ann Jan of Annadale, Virginia; two sons: Craig Lee Moranville of Spotsylvania, Virginia; and Commander Ronald Blake Moranville, USN, of Hanford, California; grandchildren: Kendall, Andrew, Jessica, Sophie and Kaitlyn; a brother Ronald E. Moranville of Trophy Club, Texas; other nieces, nephews, a host of friends, and his hunting companions "Schatzy" and "Flash".
