Rhodes, Marshall A. "Dusty" Age 86, of Hopkins, died 11/28/09. Marshall was born in a small town in Pennsylvania in 1923 and grew up during the Great Depression. His family, like many others, struggled to get by and had to do without the luxuries we take for granted today. However, their house was always filled with kindness, caring, respect, and love. Those values shaped the man that Marshall became and he shared his kindness and love with everyone he met. While still a young man Marshall joined the Army and went off to fight in World War II and do his duty to his country. He served in Sicily, Italy, and North Africa before a serious illness sent him back home to the U.S. After recovering from this illness he was stationed on guard duty at the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, D.C. There he met the love of his life, Delphine, who became his wife of 56 years. Marshall and Delphine moved to Minnesota in 1951 and spent the rest of their lives here raising a family and doing everything they could to make life good for their children and everyone around them. Marshall's outgoing and caring personality endeared him to everyone he met and he valued his family and friends above all else. Marshall loved helping others and would always put others first. He loved to laugh and share stories and bring happiness to those around him. Marshall taught us all that the greatest joy in life cannot be bought with money, but comes from the love you give and the love you get in return! A special thank you to the caring staff of Methodist Hospital Hospice.
