They had 11 children: Margaret Emaline, William Jackson, Sarah Elizabeth, George Washington, Rebecca Adaline, Thomas Leonard, James H, Robert Henry, Mary Jane, Francis Lorantine "Tiny", William Samuel.
During the Civil War, John served as a Private in Company F, 17th Consolidated Texas Dismounted Cavalry. His brothers William Moore, Thomas Moore, and Thompson A Moore served in the same Company.
John passed away Nov 1877 in Upshur County, Texas and is buried in the Moore Family Cemetery in Latch, Upshur County, Texas.
