Richard had two brothers, William and Thomas.
Richard intended for the ministry of the Church of England, but with the Revolutionary War coming on, he entered the army and attained the rank of Major.
After the war, he migrated to Kentucky in about 1799 and settled in Lexington Ky.He did not stay there long, before he moved to Bullit County Ky. where he owned and operated the Salt Works.
It was not long after that he moved to Russellville, Logan County Kentucky. There is where he spent the rest of his life out with is family, and built a house in Russellville , now a museum called the Bibb House.
He also owned land between Russellville and Auburn Ky. known as Elmwood where the Bibb Family Cemetery is located.
He died at his residence in Russellville on Jan 25, 1839 and was buried at the Bibb Family Cemetery at Elmwood.
