Joseph M. Tierney, 83, a lifelong resident of Pittston Township, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Born in Pittston Township on October 19, 1927, he was a son of the late Joseph and Genevieve Garrity Tierney.

He was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, Pittston, the University of Scranton, and attended Georgetown School of Law.

Joseph was an Airman First Class with the 67th Fighter Bomber Division of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He was an adjustor for the State Farm Insurance Co., the first Administrator for Allied Services Long Term Center, and retired as the Director of Financial Aid at the University of Scranton, where he was inducted into the order of Pro Deo.

Joseph was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Cosgrove Tierney, in March 2005.

Joseph is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
