Francis A. Abbott, Jr., 86, of Neptune, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 25, 2010, surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 27, 1924 in Camden. Francis was born in Camden and lived there until moving to Neptune in 1960.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Francis was a side gunner on a B-17 bomber and survived being shot down over Austria during the war.

Before and after the war, he worked for General Motors in Linden and retired after more than 35 years.

He loved building model airplanes and spending time with his family.

He married the love of his life in 1947, Jeanne Paxton.

Francis was a communicant of Holy Innocents Church in Neptune.

He is predeceased by his brother John Abbott and his sister Anne Pflug.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jeanne Abbott of Neptune, his daughter Diane Barbella and her husband Anthony of Maryland, NY, his son David F. Abbott of Smithville, his grandchildren David M. Barbella and his wife Patricia of Howell, Michael A. Barbella of Toms River, Anthony W. Barbella of Toms River, Tracey Wood of Arcade, NY, his great grandchildren Cassandra Lynn, Dominic Joseph and Kaitlyn, and his brother Thomas Abbott of Davie, FL.

Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, October 29, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM at the Ely Funeral Home 3316 Hwy. 33 Neptune, NJ 07753. A funeral service will be held at the Ely Funeral Home on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 8pm. The interment will follow on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10:30am at St. Anne's Cemetery, Wall.
