Beulah began her "career" with teaching, but did not pursue it, rather becoming a nurse. She received training at the hospital in Belfast, Maine, and then went to Lockport, New York for a period of time.
Upon returning to New England, she took up private nursing, caring for family members and other people in their homes.
Beulah's first husband was Francis Hawkins Mudgett. They were divorced, and she married William Alfred Newcombe after the death of his first wife, whom she had nursed until her death.
Beulah and Alfred, sometimes referred to Alec or Alex, kept their home in California, where his son and families resided. They returned east in 1950, living in Winsted for the remainder of their lives.
Research indicates that Frank Mudgett went south, marrying in Georgia, and very likely is buried there with his wife. Georgia records are not easy to obtain, unless you are a direct line descendant.
