"Andrew J. Howland, aged 79, a pioneer of this vicinity held in the highest esteem, died Saturday at the home of his son, Leroy, in Detroit. He had been in poor health for several years. Remains were brought to Lapeer and taken to the home of his brother, Ira Howland and burial took place in Clark Cemetery. Mr. Howland was born on the old homestead in Elba, where the greater part of his life was spent. He leaves three sons and one daughter; Lee Howland of Lapeer; Charles Howland of Elba; Leroy Howland, of Detroit; Mrs. Louis Williams, of Wayne; also three brothers: Ira Howland, of Elba, Arthur Howland, of Detroit, and William Howland, of Sunfield, Ionia County."
