State trooper was avid hunter, raised horses
Kenneth J. Olexa, 8 Jean Drive, Delaware Township, died at 3:13 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at Select Specialty Hospital, Youngstown, after an extended illness. He was 73. Mr. Olexa was born Dec. 9, 1936, in Stockdale, Pa., to John M. and Susan Evans Olexa. He married Kathleen A. Williams May 23, 1964. He was employed by the Pennsylvania State Police and was a state trooper for 33 years. He attended the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage. He served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer in Germany. Mr. Olexa was a graduate of the state police academy in Hershey, Pa. He served in the Troop D and Troop S in Mercer and received several commendations for saving lives. He was an excellent marksman and an avid hunter and belonged to the Clintonville Gun Club and Hadley Gun Club. Kenneth raised and showed quarter horses and was a master gardener. He is survived by: his wife Kathleen, at the residence; two sons, Scott Olexa and his wife Kim, Canton, Ohio; and Tim Olexa, Transfer; a sisterin- law, Charlotte Olexa, Perryopolis, Pa.; and six grandchildren, Andrew, Nicholas, Zachary, Austen, Taylor and Colton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fred Olexa.
