Daughter of Daniel Blatchley Haff and Clarissa Leek, widow of John Buel Barteau, whom she married on January 27, 1847, and mother of John Frank and George Buell Barteau.

Second wife of Capt Bartlett Tuthill Hawkins, whom she married on April 14, 1858, and mother of Clarissa Tuthill, Erastus Corning, Irving and Emmett Smith Hawkins.

In 1850, Clarissa Bartow, aged 22, was living in Brookhaven, NY, with her husband, Buel Bartow, aged 26, and son, John F. Bartow, aged 4 monts. Her husband was shown to be a construction carpenter.

In 1860, Clarissa Hawkins, aged 32, was living in Brookhaven, New York, post office South Haven, with her husband, Bartlett F. Hawkins, aged 48, a boatman, and children, John F. Barteau, aged 11, George B. Barteau, aged 8, Jane A. Hawkins, aged 13, Clara F. Hawkins, aged 1, and Fanning B. Hawkins, aged 16.

Obituary - Mrs. Clarissa Hawkins died at her late home at Hauppauge on Tuesday, aged about 80 years. She was twice married, her first husband being Buel Barteau, by whom she had two sons. Her second husband was Bartlett Hawkins, by whom she had three sons and one daughter, The deceased, was a daughter of the late, Daniel Haff, of Sayville and a sister of Mrs. Harriet Carpenter, of this place, who is now the only surviving member of that family. The funeral was hold today from the home of her son, Emmett Hawkins at South Haven.
