William is the son of William and Catherine (Dempsey) Prosser. He was known as "Will" in the community. Will was one of 7 children (Polly, Margaret, Daniel, Isaac, George, and Rachel were his brothers and sisters).

He married Elizabeth Jenkins, April 16, 1858. They had no children.

Will came to Poweshiek Co., IA in 1848, farming gov't land, which he later sold. In 1851 he got "gold fever" and went to California. He spent 4 years at the various mining camps in CA and returned to Iowa in 1855 with enough gold to purchase 320 acres of farm land and build a house and buildings on the property.

Will and Elizabeth farmed the land - having over 800 acres at one time. They farmed and raised stock.

Elizabeth was very fond of the Westfield Cemetery; many of her ancestors and family members were buried there. She insisted that her husband, Will, build a church to go along with the little cemetery. Will & Elizabeth had the church built and it was dedicated and presented to the people of Westfield on Nov. 16, 1902.

Will was a member of the People's Party (later the Democratic Party). He served as Trustee of his township. Will was a member of the G.A.R.

Towards the end of his life, his foot bothered him and he was on crutches.
