Mr. Acker, 82, of Allegheny Lutheran Home, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Roaring Spring, died at 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 1989, at Mercy Hospital.
Known as Ted, Mr. Acker retired as a car builder from the Pennsylvania Railroad, after 42 years' service.
He was born Aug. 8, 1906, in Roaring Spring, the son of Albert and Cora (Hartman) Acker, and was twice married [apparently, married 3 times], first to Melinda C. Burket, who died March 10, 1950, and then to Gladys Glass.
Surviving are his wife of Duncansville, three children: Melvin B. of Fremont, Ohio; Marilyn K. Wilt of McKee and James A. of Claysburg; two stepsons: Robert Glass and John Glass of Duncansville; 11 grandchildren, a step-granddaughter, a great-granddaughter and four step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Acker was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Roaring Spring, and attended the Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring.
