He was born on November 28, 1913, at Kirby, the son of Arthur Eugene McCauley and Treecy Margaret Tolleson.
"Coach Mac" retired from teaching after 44 years in both Texas and Arkansas. He taught and coached basketball in Donaldson, Crawfordsville, Centerpoint, Mineral Springs, Lakeside and Hot Springs, all in Arkansas. As the head Hot Springs High School basketball coach, he also served as the Arkansas Coaches Association President from 1960 to 1961. While in Texas, he taught in Center and Houston and retired from Hooks ISD. Nathan was a member of the Beverly Heights Church of Christ where he also served as elder.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruth McCauley of Hooks, Texas; two daughters and one son-in-law, Susan McCauley of Texarkana, Arkansas and Patty and Bill Simpson of Fulton, Missouri; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sonny and Kayla McCauley of Dekalb, Texas and Gary and Kay Farmer of Anthony, New Mexico; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Myrle and Wayne Rogers of Birmingham, Alabama; and a number of other special family members, friends, and former students.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 2, 2003, in the Glenwood Cemetery with Tom Martin officiating.
Local arrangments are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
Visitation will be Thursday, 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM, at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held Thursday night at the Beverly Heights Church of Christ in Hooks, Texas, beginning at 7:00 PM.
