Ruth L. McCauley, 96, of Albany, passed away Monday, February 10, 2020 at the Bella Vista Nursing Home in Breckinridge, Texas. Girdner Funeral Home is making arrangements. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at 6 pm, Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the Albany Church of Christ.
Ruth Lavalla Pettit was born on 29 April 1923 in Blackfork, Arkansas to Nathan and Eva Pettit, the second of four children. She was married at seventeen and had her first son, Gary Farmer, at the age of eighteen. Ruth raised Gary on her own for thirteen years. She was a successful telephone operator and supervisor for Southwestern Bell Telephone working in Hot Springs, AR when she met Mac McCauley, a high school science teacher and basketball coach. They married and enjoyed a blended family with three teenagers in the house; Gary and Patty and Susan, Mac's daughters. In 1959, Nathan E. McCauley II was added to the family.
Ruth enjoyed traveling and has lived and made friends in many places to include Center, TX, Channelview, TX, Hooks, TX, Alamogordo, NM, Fredericksburg, TX, Bayview, TX and finally in Albany, TX. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Eugene Farmer and Nathan E. McCauley, her parents, Nathan and Eva Pettit of Fort Smith, AR, her sister, Lona Floyd of Springfield, OR, her brother Ronnie Pettit of Greenville, SC and her daughter, Susan McCauley of Texarkana, AR.
Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Charles Law of North Little Rock, AR, two sons and daughters-in-law Gary and Kay Farmer of Bayview, TX, and Sonny and Kayla McCauley of Albany, TX, and daughter Patty and Bill Simpson of Fulton, MO and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Ruth will be remembered as a loving mother, faithful friend, and dedicated Christian. She was a kind and caring lady whose Christian nature, enthusiasm for life, and love of helping others leaves a lasting legacy. Her winning personality and warm demeanor endeared her to friends and family alike throughout her life. Her greatest joys in life were serving the Lord and loving her family and church.
Ruth's ashes will be interred at the Glenwood, AR cemetery with her late husband Mac McCauley. Memorials may be made in her name to Christian charities to further the work of the Lord in our world.
