Sumter - Services for Carl A. Hamm, 83, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tony Metze and Vicar Kim Trabold officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 1137 Alice Drive, Sumter, SC 29150. Mr. Hamm died Monday, July 8, 2002 in Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Benjamin H. Hamm and the late Lula Hawkins Hamm. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and was an honorary life member of South Carolina Lutheran Men. He had retired as district manager from Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Company with 23 years of service. He was a retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant with 24 years of service and a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Eunice Elizabeth Haltiwanger Hamm of Sumter; sons, Ron Hamm of Greeneville, Tenn., Keith Hamm, Larry Hamm and Steve Hamm, all of Sumter; daughters, Linda Evans of Greenwood and Pam Blake of Sumter; brother, Marvin Hamm of Newberry; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. © The State, Columbia, SC, 10 Jul 2002
