Private Orlon L. Lum was born at Mount Clare, Nebr., in the year 1880 and died at Camp Dodge, Iowa, December 16, 1918. At an early age he was thrown upon his own resources and he made good. Before he joined the army, he had been farming in Lincoln county (sic) and when his country called he sold his belonging and answered the call. He was a man of thrifty habits, kind and loving, and made friends wherever he was. He was a member of the machine gun company and his comrades speak highly of him. The body arrived in Edgar Friday morning, accompanied by Private John R. Churchill, and was taken to Graul's undertaking rooms. A short service was conducted by the Rev. R.F. Scott of the Methodist church at 2:30 p.m. The pall bearers were boys of Uncle Sam: Chaplain Sanborn, Frank Harvison, Ralph McKinney, Paul Hattan, Francis Hattan and John Churchill. The body was laid to rest in the Edgar cemetery (sic). - Edgar Post.
