On Wednesday morning, October 27, 2010, Alice M. (Hickman) Van Winkle age 88 passed away peacefully at her residence in Morgantown. She was a lifelong resident of Morgantown.

Alice was born September 7, 1922 in Morgantown to the late Harry & Bertha (Voyles) Hickman. She was the devoted wife of Carl H. Van Winkle whom she married on September 21, 1941 in Martinsville. He preceded her in death after 68 years of loving on February 2, 2010.

Alice was a loving mother and homemaker. She retired in 1980, along side her husband, as the owner and operator for 19 years of the V & V Regal Store in Morgantown. Prior to that, Alice worked for RCA in Indianapolis and was very active in the Indiana War Mothers.

She was a 1939 graduate of Morgantown High School, 50 year member of the First Christian Church of Morgantown and a member of the Morgantown High School Alumni Association. Alice enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading her Bible, cooking & canning and making clothes for her children when they were younger. She prepared meals for the blind and loved spending time with her dog "Buddy".

She will live on in the hearts of her five sons: Bruce Van Winkle and his wife Jean, Wayne D. Van Winkle and his wife Judy, Keith E. Van Winkle & Kevin L. Van Winkle and his wife Susannah all of Morgantown, Ross L. Van Winkle of Tonopah, NV. Alice will be remembered by her brother: Robert L. Hickman of Morgantown; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother: Richard L. Hickman.

The Rev. James Brown will conduct a funeral service 1:00 pm Saturday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 10 am till time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Alice will be laid to rest next her husband at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
