Benjamin Leigh Armstrong was killed at the battle of Murfreesboro in 1862, just before the birth of his child. Before he had left for the war, he gave his wife a pin for the baby, in case he did not return. It was always treasured by his daughter, Willie Armstrong, the late Mrs J. H. C. Leigh."

Ben's widow Mary remarried on 18 Mar 1875 to James Pinkerton. She died in 1880 and is buried with her second husband at Rest Haven Cemetery in Williamson Co TN.

Although Ben is not on the list of known confederates buried at Evergreen, this list is not complete. It is assumed he is buried there as no record has been found of the family claiming his remains for private burial.
