The husband of Elizabeth Nagg Constable; father to: Albert, Rose, William, Leroy, Pauline, Patricia, Bernadine, and David.

His Italian name was: Gennaro Constestabile.

Born and raised in Antrosano, Italy,and WWI Veteran.He was a Cpl. in the U.S. Army.

Loved operas and was a drummer for bands.

He belonged to Holy Rosary Church in Republic, PA and was a Knight of Columbus.

George was the son of Antonio and Rosaria Luccita (Luchitti) Contestabile. Here are his brothers; Anthony, Ettore, Thomaso, Joseph and Vincent.

The marriage license was obtained on May 14, 1919. Brownsville, PA. by F.P. Harris, Justice of the Peace.

Records at St. Peter's RC Church in Brownsville, PA witnesses were: Jacobus Bardoni & Helena Nagg, and Father Francis Aaron married them on June 3, 1919.

He came to the US at the Port of entry was New York Port, on Dec. 7, 1913.

George had a scar on the first joint of the little finger on each hand.

He also worked for Pittsburgh Steele Co of Pittsburgh, PA at the Tower Hill #2, Fayette County, PA

In 1943 the Community Center Committee of Penn Craft unveiled the Honor Roll with 57 men's names on it from Penn Craft. The Honor Roll was placed at the library in Penn Craft. The ceremony took place Oct. 23, 1943 and George Constable was chairman of the Honor Roll Committee. He and two other families had three sons in the service at the time the Honor Roll was unveiled.

George and his wife, Elizabeth were number two among the original fifty homesteaders at Penn Craft.

George enlisted in the Army May 1, 1917, and served with the coast artillery unit in Maine. He later trained recruits at Camp Green in Maine.
He was discharged from the US Army on Dec. 16, 1918, as a corporal. Honorable. Serial No: 551517.

My grandfather retired January 12, 1958, from the coal mine was last employed as a "shot fire" at the Chartiers Mine of the Emerald Coal Company. He worked 43 years in the coal mines, 20 years were with Hillman Coal and Coke Company, Brownsville. He was a member of the Hillman Rescue Team and was an instructor for team at various Hillman mines. My grandfather recalled a fire on June 7, 1944, Chartiers when six miners and 32 horses were sealed in the mine following an explosion. He was in charge of rescue operations in Powhattan, Ohio mine fire in August 1944. They found 62 miners dead in two different groups, all victims of carbon monoxide gas from the fire.

He came over on the Stampalia and left Italy from Naples. Nov. 23, 1913, Arrived in New York, Dec. 7, 1913.

He was married a second time to a lady by the name of Frances Petriella, Feb 10, 1968, they were married by Rev. Andrew Disanto at Holy Rosary Church, Republic, PA. Frances's mother was Genevieve Durinzi of Bari, Italy. Frances and my grandfather resided at W. Crawford Ave., Connellsville.
