Robert Blair served as a Corporal in Company D of the 140th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the American Civil War.

He enlisted in the 140th on August 25, 1862 at Rochester, New York as a Private. He was 23 years of age at the time of his enlistment.

He was promoted to the rank of Corporal on an unknown date.

He was killed in action in the heavy fighting on the slopes of Little Round Top on July 2, 1863. He was intially buried east of Little Round Top.

He was later reinterred in the New York Plot in the Gettysburg National Cemetery in Section D, Site #79.
