He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on February 13, 1863.
The 2nd Independent Battery was attached to an unidentified unit at the Battle of Gettysburg.
He was mortally wounded in action on July 1, 1863 at Gettysburg. He died later that day.
He was initially buried south of the Brickyard.
He was later reinterred in the New York Plot in the Gettysburg National Cemetery in Section A, Site #144.
