"ODIE AMANDA HIRSCHFELD. Odie Amanda Hirschfeld, 86, of San Angelo died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, in Columbia Medical Center. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jason Adams and the Rev. Carl W. Rohifs officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Johnson's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Odie was born Nov. 24, 1910, to William Christian and Amanda Marie Eisenbach in Giddings, Texas, where she remained until she moved to San Angelo in 1930. She married Louis William Hirschfeld, the founder of Hirschfeld Steel Co., on Oct 19, 1931, in Austin. He preceded her in death in 1984. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved her family and friends. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1940 and a member of the Fidelis Sunday school class. She was also a member of the Texas A&M Mothers Club, where she regularly attended the meetings. Odie also was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters. Her survivors, three brothers, Alvin "Babe" Eisenbach of Tyler and Clyde E. Eisenbach and Cecil L. Eisenbach, both of San Angelo, one sister, Gladys Marie Englert of San Angelo, four sisters-in-law, Johnnie Eisenbach and Elizabeth Eisenbach, both of San Angelo, Louise Sanchez of Boston and Melinda Hirschfeld of Texas City, Texas; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbear ers will be her grandsons. Ma Maw will be missed by all her family and friends. The family would like to express deep appreciation to Dr. Jim Yost, Dr. Karman Weatherby, Dr. Duncan Fisher, Dr. David Ivans, Dr. Bruce Heare and all the medical staff we were involved with caring for our mother and grandmother, Odie, at Columbia Medical Center. The famiily requests memorial contributions to be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or a favorite charity."

Mother told me that her dad wanted to name all the girls after jewel stones. Odie was supposed to be Opel, but he was a bit tipsy.
