The picture of William Henry & Eady in their younger years was copied from the original tin-type. There is an article on W.H. Miller and his family on Pages 307-308 of "History of Wapello County Iowa and Representative Citizens," edited and compiled by Capt. S.B. Evans and published in 1901. There are pictures of W.H. and Eady on the two pages preceding the article. This book may now be read online.

The Miller family picture that I have added in this memorial was taken around 1885. Pictured with William Henry and Eady are their children, left to right: Mary Josephine, Lewis Egbert, and Caleb Eli.

Obituary From Ottumwa Courier, December 24, 1908:

AN OLD SETTLER
ANSWERS CALL

W.H. MILLER ONE OF THE PIO-
NEERS OF WAPELLO COUNTY
DIED THIS MORNING.

BORN IN INDIANA

Came to Iowa With parents in 1846
and Lived for Time in Ottumwa
–Funeral Saturday.

At the advanced age of 71 years, W.H. Miller, one of Wapello county's oldest settlers, passed away to the great beyond at the home of his son, Eli Miller, in Pleasant township, at 6 o'clock this morning. The removal of Mr. Miller from this life marks the departure of a pioneer. He was one of the vanguard in this section, having come here at the age of 9 years, in the infancy of the county, and his father was one of those who staked a claim in the new country as Wapello county then was.

Born in Union county, Ind., Dec. 1, 1837, W.H. Miller, with his parents, Caleb and Mary (Bedell) Miller, moved to Drake [sic-should be Darke] county, Ohio, in 1839, when the decedent was two years of age. After a residence of 7 years in Ohio, they migrated to Iowa, settling in Dahlonega township, Wapello county, residing in Dahlonega township until 1864, during which time he followed the agricultural pursuit, he moved to Pleasant township and continued farming with much success and became the owner of 322 acres of good land in that township. He resided there until 1899, when he removed to Ottumwa, leaving the farm to be operated by his two sons, L.E. and C.E. Miller, and son-in-law, E.L. Giltner.

Mr. Miller was united in marriage to Miss Eady Cobler. To the union were born two sons, Louis E. and Caleb E., and a daughter, Mary J. Giltner, all of whom survive the decedent, whose wife preceded him in death.

The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the Eli Miller residence in Bladensburg. Interment in Round Point cemetery.
