Abner M. Swope, 85, of 310 ½ South Willard Street, died at his home at 9:15 p.m. Friday.
The son of Silas and Melvina McGee Swope, he was born in Wapello County, August 27, 1872. He had lived in Ottumwa most of his life. He was a member of the First Pentecostal Assembly of God Church. He married Phoebe A. Leek [sic], September 26, 1891, in Wapello County.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, John Swope of Rock Island, Ill., and Edward Swope of North Hollywood Calif.; two daughters Mrs. Rachel Van Kirk of North Hollywood and Mrs. Cora Bradley of Ottumwa; 11 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, three brothers and a sister.
The body is at the Johnson Funeral Chapel awaiting completion of funeral arrangements.
