Louis E. Allen, son of David and Garda (Ericsson) Allen, was born July 25, 1910 in Gonvick, MN. He grew to manhood at Gonvick and was a member of the first graduating class of Gonvick High School in 1928. He received his B. S. from Bemidji State Teacher's College and his M.A. from the University of Minnesota. On June 8, 1938 he was united in marriage to Irene Simons at Bemidji, MN.

He began his career in education as a teacher at Gonvick High School. In 1952 he came to Greenbush and served as Superintendent until he retired in 1975. He served on the Minnesota State High School League from 1963-1971,and also served as president. He was also the league's representative to the National Federation of State High School Associations from 1967-1971.

Louis was an active member of the Greenbush Lions Club, the Roseau Retired Teachers Association and Bethel Lutheran church in Greenbush, where he was currently serving on the church council.

He passed away at the United Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, on Saturday, November 28, at the age of 82 years. He is survived by his wife, Irene; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Pat Allen, of Lincoln, NE; two daughters: Julie Ann Allen of Cass Lake, MN, and Mary Kay Allen, of Bemidji, MN; two grandchildren: Colin David Allen and Siobhan, Mrs. Leo Wendland, both of Lincoln, NE; one great-granddaughter, Lynn Marie Wendland, of Lincoln, NE; two brothers: George D. Allen, of Clearbrook, MN and Philip A. Allen, of Gonvick, MN.

Funeral services for Louis E. Allen were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Pastors Jim Gerth and Glen Stadler officiating. Burial was in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery with Gieseike Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of funeral arrangements.

Homorary bearers were H. T. Langlie, Gordon Bagne, Elmer Doran, Dr. L. H. Klefstad, Dr. A. F. Larson, Stuart Blackorby, Russell Lund, Murrae Freng, Kermit Trangsrud, and Ing Folland. Active bearers were: Milt Sather, Belmer Thompson, Manvil Dvergstenm Maurice Bertilrud, Tom Kujava and Jeff Everson.
