Esther Luella Moninger was born September 30, 1897 at Taylor, Nebraska to Ellis and Alice Dunbar Fales, and passed away Saturday, December 10, 1988 at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow at the age of 91 years 2 months and 9 days. Mrs. Moninger grew up on the family farm in Loup County, NE, attended school in Almeria. She was united in marriage to John E. Moninger on November 11, 1913 at Taylor, NE. Eleven children were born to this union. They farmed in and around Custer County all their married life. Mr. Moninger passed away March 20, 1978. Mrs. Moninger had been a resident of Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow since February 1987.

Survivors include 5 daughters, Evelyn Olson of Merna, Jane Killion, of Big Springs, NE, Gladys Smith of Sacramento, CA, Virdena Maggarat of York, NE, and Viola Sears of Eugene, Oregon 3 sons Allen of Sacramento, CA, Donald of Eugene, OR and Everett of Anselmo,NE. 36 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one daughter-in-law Lela Moninger, Burwell; her stepmother Hannah Fales of Burwell; 3 half-brothers, Warren, Wayne and Everett Fales; She was preceeded in death by her husband, 3 sons, Roy, Frank and Seth, 7 brothers, 5 sisters, 1 grandson and 2 great grandson.

Funeral services were Tuesday, December 13, 1988 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Merna was Reverend Arnie Teachout officiating. Music was provided by Frances Beals, organist, and Nancy Willis and Lucille Cantrell, soloists. Pallbearers were Tim Moninger, Loyd Olson, Jr, Phil Killion, Jerry Moninger, Bill Adams an Johnny Moninger . Honorary pallbearers were Paul Killion, Loren Sears, Darwin Mitchell, Roy Moninger, Jr., Jon Moninger, Donn D Maggart, and Leroy Moninger. Burial was in the Moulton Cemetery near Almeria, NE with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church in Merna, NE.
