Military Rites Are Accorded the Late J. Edward Sullivan

Funeral services for J. Edward Sullivan were held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the late home, 10 Randall Avenue, followed by a solemn high mass of requiem in St. Paul's Church at 9:30. Rev. Willard Doherty celebrated the mass with Rev. Guido Festa as deacon. Rev. Charles M. Coveney as sub-deacon and Rev. John O'Connor, Rome, as master of ceremonies.

Sunday night, members of Norwich Lodge of Elks held services at the late home and Norwich Council Knights of Columbus called and recited the Rosary led by Reverend Doherty.

Serving as bearers were Thomas Curley, Sherman Rife, Francis Conroy, Matthew Lee, Joseph Sanford, James M. Dunne, Dr. O. P. Jones and Walter N. Wright.

Full military rites were accorded Mr. Sullivan by the Lieutenant Warren E. Eaton D.S.C. Post 159, American Legion, under the command of A. Wesley Gould. Members of the firing squad were Mr. Gould, Murray Sabin, Willard Shattuck and Fred Perry. Color bearers were William T. McDowell and Howard Brown; color guards, Charles White and Thomas Spadaro. Taps were sounded by Bugler Donald Connelly. Presentation of the flag to the widow concluded the Legion services. The presentation was made by Past Commander Gould.

Interment was in the family plot in St. Paul's Cemetery with Rev. Charles M. Coveney officiating at the prayer and committal.

The services were largely attended and among those from out of the city were: Mr. and Mrs. John Weiler (Mary Sullivan), Rochester; Miss Gertrude Sullivan, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sullivan, John E. Sullivan (Son); Mr. and Mrs. George Sullivan, Mr. and Mrs. William Lane, Jerry Lane, Edward Lane, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Powers, all of Binghamton; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Lloyd, Chester Lloyd, Jr., Miss Barbara Lloyd, Glen Rock, New Jersey; Miss Jeanne Weiler, New York City; Dr. and Mrs. John Oates, Hamilton; and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Rogers, Tully.
