Son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles N. Savage, 4430 Springfield st. Sioux City,IA. he was born Oct. 31, 1918 in Sioux City and resided here until his enlistment in the marine corps Jan 6, 1942. He went to New Zealand in Jan 1943 and was later stationed at Guadalcanal. On Nov 1, 1943 he landed with the marines on Bougainville and was also in the recent landing on Guam from where his last letter, dated July 29, was written.
The young Corporal was a graduate of Central High School and was employed by Cohen Wholesale Grocer, Inc. prior to his enlistment. He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran church in Leeds.
Survivors, besides his widow and parents, are a year old son, Ronald Wayne, whom he never had seen; two brothers, Alvin of San Jose, CA, and Lester of Marysville,CA. Two sisters, Mrs. Ben Aalseth of Sioux City, and Mrs. Lee McLaughlin of Marysville,CA. His widow and son are residing with his parents.
