John Thomas Allen, Jr., resident of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 83.

John was born on September 20, 1927 to John Thomas Allen, Sr. and Lilly May (Patterson) Allen in Streetman, Texas. As a young boy he moved with his family all over. John joined the United States Navy on his 17th birthday and served in the South Pacific and in Korea for 11 years. John was married to Hazel Lanora Willaford on September 21, 1953 in Hondo, Mississippi. They moved to Corpus Christi in 1955 where he lived and worked in the civil service for 34 years. They made their home in Ponca City in April of 1993. John was a member of the American Legion for 15 years in Ponca City. He enjoyed woodworking with red cedar but most of all he loved to be with his family and friends. He was also a member of the American Lapadary Society and an avid rock hound.

He is survived by his children: Deborah K. Blaser, Karen Elaine Sumpter, and Thomas Curtis Allen all of Texas, and Robert Eugene Allen of California; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, three sister and two brothers.

The service held , Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Montgomery, officiating. Burial will follow at the Longwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
