EMERSON, Neb. -- Marcella A. Paulsen, 82, of Emerson passed away Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, with the Rev. Gerald Leise officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Emerson. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Becker - Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City is in charge of arrangements.

Marcella was born Sept. 4, 1928, in Emerson, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Schwarten) VanLent. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Emerson.

She married Alvin Paulsen on Jan. 15, 1947, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson. She had been employed at Heritage Care Center in Emerson for 20 years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Guild in Emerson. She was very active in her church, loved her grandchildren and adored her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Jeanette Adams and her husband, Fred Grove of Bigelow, Ark., Nancy and Lloyd McLaughlin of Emerson, Teresa and Greg Naber of Scribner, Neb.; a sister, Marian Jensen of South Sioux City; five grandchildren, Rick Adams, Brett (Lisa Nelson) Adams, Patrick McLaughlin, Brian (Amy) Naber, Christopher Naber; and five great-grandchildren, Jayma Adams, Kennedy Nelson, Kate Adams, Flint Adams and Jayme Naber.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin on March 16, 2006, in Emerson; a brother, Raymond VanLent; and a sister, Dolores Alexander.

Pallbearers will be Glen Paulsen, Terry VonSeggern, Bob VanLent, Al Fuchser, Robert McQuistan and David Krusemark.
