Arvita M. Detra, 101, formerly of 765 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, died Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Hamilton Arms Center where she had lived for eight years.

She was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of Susan Espenshade and Abraham L. Butzer. She was the wife of the late Banks W. Detra, who died in 1984.

Surviving are daughter, Merle, married to George E. Murray, Jr., of Lancaster; a niece, Verna S. Moyer, of Milton Grove and several cousins.

She was a longtime member of Covenant United Methodist Church, where she had served on the decorating committee for many years.

She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and crafts and won numerous awards for her entries in local hobby and craft shows.

Funeral services will be held at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home, 320 Blue Rock Road, Route 999, Millersville, PA on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 10 AM with the Rev. Dr. J. Val Hastings, Sr. officiating. Interment will be in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery, Millersville, PA. Friends may call at Scheid's on Tuesday between 9:30 and 10 AM. Kindly omit flowers. Memorial Remembrances can be made in Arvita's memory to Covenant United Methodist Church, 110 N. Mulberry St., Lancaster, PA 17603-3507.
