She was born in Bluff Point, IN, the daughter of George Washington Carey and Bertha Jayne Naylor Carey. She attended school in Huntington and graduated from Modoc High School in 1937. Mrs. Sears met her husband while working at Stewarts Cafe in Yorktown.
She was employed in medical records at Ball Memorial Hospital prior to her retirement. Mrs. Sears was a member of Yorktown United Methodist Church, attended Cammack United Methodist Church, was a member of the Thrifty Thirty Home Ec Club and Warner Gear Sympathy Club. She was a volunteer at Ball Memorial Hospital and at Emens Auditorium.
Surviving are her daughter, Becky Monroe (husband-Dennis) Monroe of Yorktown; two sons, Forrest "Woody" Sears (wife-Emily) of Yorktown, and Kim E. Sears (wife-Becky) of Muncie; two sisters, Mary Jordan of San Diego, Calif., and Margaret Edwards, Muncie; and eight grandchildren, Bruce Monroe (wife-Chris) of Yorktown, Anita Smith of Pendleton, Darren Monroe (wife-Denise) of Carmel, Heidi Monroe (husband-Adam Belcher) of Yorktown, Nanci Perry (husband-Kirk) of Yorktown, Aaron Sears of Greenwood, and Josh Sears and Corey Sears, both of Muncie; 21 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Monroe (fiancee-Kris Thornburg) of Yorktown, Sgt. Cade E. Monroe (wife-Tammy) of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, Amy Monroe of Yorktown, Dennie Lyn Monroe, Daniel Smith and Donovan Smith, all of Pendleton, Freeman Monroe and Harper Patterson, both of Carmel, Jenna Sears, Maggie Sears, Michael Sears and Sasha Sears, all of Greenwood, Lydia Perry, Nathaniel Perry, John Perry, and Julia Perry, all of Yorktown, Staff Sgt. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John E. Sears Jr., who died in 1995; a brother, Leroy Carey; and great-great-grandson, Cade E. Monroe Jr.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Yorktown United Methodist Church, 2301 S. Broadway, Yorktown, with her son and daughter-in-law, Pastor Forrest "Woody" Sears and Pastor Emily Sears, and Pastor Steve Loft officiating. Burial will follow in Yorktown Cemetery.
Friends may call at Parson Mortuary from 2-6 p.m. Sunday or an hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
