Howard Ormsby Dolph was born November 3, 1874 on the old home farm of his father, J. Hiram Dolph, in South Grove neighborhood near Strahan and after a brief illness of bronchial pneumonia and heart complication passed away at his home February 20, 1933.
He grew to manhood in the vicinity and was educated in the country school at South Grove and later attended Highland Park College in Des Moines and also the Shenandoah Normal College.
He was always energetic, thrifty, and of high courage and sterling integrity, taking active part in community, church, and school affairs. His home and family were his greatest interest in life and he bestowed himself upon them.
He was married to Edna June Ogden, August 31, 1898, and continued his faming on the farm adjoining until 1911, moving to their present home and living there until the time of his passing. To this union were born three children, Kenneth Howard, who passed away June 13, 1981, and two daughters, Geraldine and Maxine, who with the wife, two brothers, Harvey E. and J. W.
