MARY FRANCES (FREE) DAVIS

Mary Frances (Free) Davis was born on May 9, 1927 in Roscoe, Texas to Hiram Allen and Mamie Myrtle (Wyly) Free. When she was only 4 years old, her mother died from complications of appendicitis. Following her mother's death, her father, her Grandma Lou Free and her Aunt Nancy Powell raised Frances. Aunt Nancy and Uncle Theo's children, Opal, Sonny, Don, Jim, Kenneth (Coot) and Roland (Rollie) loved Frances like a sister.

Frances married Alex Russell Davis in Cooper, Texas on October 27, 1945. They were married 38 years when he passed away in 1983. To this union were born six children: June; twins, Barry & Gary; twins, Delbert & Debbie; and Russell. She was a loving grandmother to Angela (Jones) Riggs, Wayne Jones, Jr., Michael Jones, Terry Davis, Terri Kay (Davis) Powers, Christopher Davis, Hillary Davis, Adam Davis, Scott Davis, Blake Burnett and Alex Davis. She was blessed with 23 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grand children.

A cafeteria worker for the Sweetwater Independent School District, Frances was well known for the desserts she made for the schools. Her family will never forget the taste of her chocolate pies, sweet tea and turkey and dressing. Frances was a wonderful caregiver, taking loving care of any family members that needed it. She was an avid Mustang fan until the terrible disease of Alzheimer's claimed the last few years of her life. We will cherish these memories of our mother.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Alex, in 1983; son, Barry in 1990; son, Gary in 1997; and granddaughter, Hillary in 1982. Even during the adversity she faced as she lost her husband, sons and granddaughter, she continued to smile and be optimistic about life.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughters, June Jones (and husband, Wayne); Debbie Trulock (and husband, Johnny); sons, Delbert (and wife, Janie); and Russell; daughters-in-law, Bobbie Davis and Sherline Davis; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; several cousins and a host of friends.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Nolan Nursing and Rehab Center for their care for Frances over the last several years. We would also like to thank our brother, Russell, for his never-ending devotion to the care and well-being of our mother.
