Born in Owsley County, he was the son of May Abshear and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Green Abshear of Booneville, KY; a daughter, Betty Oliver, Booneville, KY; a son, James Abshear, Lexington, KY; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, at the Searcy and Strong Funeral Home with Rev. Garett Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Brandenburg Cemetery with Searcy and Strong Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Census shows parents: John D. Abshear and Parrott Payne,,1930 in their household at age 6 yrs.
