She was born May 6, 1928, in Morrison, Okla., the daughter of J.V. and Vinna Swearingen Adams. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1945. A lifetime resident of Lyons, she was a 27-year employee of the Kansas State Agriculture Statistics Service.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Lyons, the Rice County Democrat Women, was a former U.S. Census Supervisor for Rice County, Foretravel Motorcoach Club, Family Motorcoach Association, Escapees R.V. Club, and volunteered at the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in Arizona for nine winters.
On May 10, 1946, she married Paul E. Kern in Wichita. He survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Michael D., Belleair Beach, Fla., Edward W., Chase, Richard F., Hollywood, Fla., and James P., Salem, Va.; two brothers, J.T. Adams, Pawnee, Okla., and William Adams, Walnut Creek, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Lyons, with the Rev. Tom Eastman presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons. Burial will be in Lyons Municipal Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the Rice and Reno County Hospice or the Center for Basic Cancer Research at K-State, both in care of the funeral home.
