Edward was born in Waterbury, Conn., in 1916, to the late Joseph and Ida Silks. He was the beloved husband of Aldona Silks, to whom he was married for 65 years.
He was educated at Central Connecticut State College and received his master's degree at Columbia University in New York.
Edward was a veteran of World War II. During the war, he was a captain in the Army Air Corps, sending pilots on missions out of Italy. He continued in the Air Force Reserves and retired a lieutenant colonel.
Ed also was a teacher and department head at Watertown High School for 30 years.
Besides his beloved wife, Aldona, he leaves three sons, Robert and his wife Lisa of Bel Air, Md., David and Mary of Woodbury, Conn., and John and Susan of East Sandwich. Edward was predeceased by his son, Jeffery. Edward also has left two grandchildren, Mathew and Megan of Bel Air, Md.
A military service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Local or National Diabetic Association; or Hospice of Cape Cod.
