POLK CITY -- Mrs. Verna J. Avery of Polk City died Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) at Integrated Health Services in Auburndale. She was 83. Born in Houston County, Ala., on Feb. 9, 1919, she came to Polk City from Columbus, Ga., 43 years ago. She was a certified nursing assistant in the medical field. She was a member of East Temple Baptist Church in Winter Haven. Mrs. Avery was preceded in death by her husband, Auby Ewell Avery. She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Ann (Jones) Grosso, Polk City, Sheryl Jane (Jones) Olejniczak, Auburndale; son, Howard Dennard, Auburndale; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
