LOREN LONG
Earnest Loren Long, oldest son of Lincoln and Susie Long, was born on a farm northeast of Russell, Iowa, April 15th 1897, and departed this life February 28, 1947, on the same farm where he was born. He was 49 years, 10 months and 13 days of age.
He spent his young life attending school and helping his father on the farm. At the age of 21 he enlisted in the Navy and served his country until the end of World War I.
In September, 1946, he was converted in his home, giving his heart to the Lord, later making a public confession of his faith in the church.
On June 30, 1928, he was married to Mabel A. Jackson, of Chariton. To this union one son, James, was born. He and his family spent several years farming in Polk and Warren counties. In 1940 he returned to his farm birthplace, which he had purchased from his father, and thus became the third generation to own the Long farm.
Because of failing health he had rented his farm and was assisting with the moving chores when he suffered a heart attack which caused his death.
Besides his wife Mabel, and son, James, he is survived by five sisters, Mrs. Cleora Matthews, of Detroit Mich.; Mrs. Fannie Beadle, of Whitetail, Mont.; Mrs. Eva O'Day, of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Lenora Daugherty and Mrs. Cassie Harmegnies, both of Chariton; and one brother, Lloyd Long, of Russell, and a large circle of relatives who will miss him from their midst.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 4, 1947, at 2 p.m. at the Beardsley funeral home. The Rev. Charles Holton officiated. Burial was made in the Chariton cemetery.
