William E. Pettit was the oldest son of Ezekiel Pettit. He was born in Rochelle, Illinois in 1867. His family moved to Nebraska in 1868, somewhere near Lincoln, Neb., where his father took up homesteading.

They lived in Nebraska until around 1892, when William & Sidney (his younger brother) went to Colorado to work in the mines. William married Edith Radabah in 1900. After Sidney was killed in a mine cave-in, William moved to Post Falls, Idaho, and took up farming and cattle ranching. He did this until his death on Sept. 12, 1947, when he died at age 80 of a stroke.

William and Edith had three children who survived to adulthood Harry, Helen and Russell.

There is no marker on his grave. The attached photos show William around 1890, and then again with his wife Edith sometime around 1905.

Note for Birth Location, Bio left by HighPlainsMom

Bio edited to reflect: William consistently self reports place of birth as Illinois on census records and as Rochelle, IL on his marriage license. William married Edith Radabah in Idaho in 1900, not 1894. No evidence that William and Edith met in Colorado but likely in Idaho. Sidney Pettit was killed in the High Peak mine collapse at Julian, CA which is where his grave marker is located. (Idaho Republican 19 Jan 1906 p. 7, col. 4) Edit submitted to his memorial. William and Edith's children were born in 1902 (Harry) 1905 (Helen) and 1910 (Russell). A stillborn daughter was delivered in 1917.
