Eleanor Prendergast Dewane, 93, Oshkosh, formerly of Denmark, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at the Evergreen Retirement Community, Oshkosh. She was born Nov. 29, 1911, to the late Margaret Fitzgerald Prendergast and John Prendergast.
Eleanor married the late J. Ben Dewane on Nov. 16, 1946, at St. Sabina Catholic Church in Chicago, Ill. Together, Eleanor and her late husband, Ben, farmed in the town of Franklin for over 50 years.
For the past nine years, Eleanor lived in Oshkosh near her son, John & family, after Ben's death. She was cared for by her daughter, Peggy.
She will be sadly missed by her four children; and her two grandchildren; other survivors include three sisters-in-law, Zita Prendergast, Florida, Alice Dewane, Denmark, and Lorraine Dewane, Luxemburg.
She was preceded in death by her four brothers, James, Hugh, John and Frank Prendergast; and her two sisters, Mary (Prendergast) Goss and Margaret (Prendergast) Moster.
Friends may call at Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, 536 Cty. Hwy. R, Denmark, Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. Parish Prayer Service will be Tuesday evening 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. On Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, the visitation will continue directly at St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown, after 10 a.m. until time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the church with Monsignor Frank Dewane officiating and concelebrated by priests in attendance, including Father Ron Colombo, Pastor of St. James. Interment will follow Mass in the parish cemetery.
