Private burial services for Mrs. Henrietta Cathcart Merchant, widow of William A. Merchant, a Havana, Cuba banking executive, will take place in Magnolia Cemetery Monday at 11 a.m. Mrs. Merchant, a native of Charleston, was a daughter of the late Robert Spann Cathcart and Amanda Kelly Cathcart. Her father was a captain in the Confederate Army and the Montgomery Guards. He was a partner of George Williams, one of the founders of the Carolinas Savings Bank. He was alderman of Ward 3 in Charleston for two administrations, and a collector for the Bureau of Internal Revenue. Mrs. Merchant gave the altar at Grace Episcopal Church[in Charleston] in memory of her father [actually both father and mother] some years ago. Mrs. Merchant attended Charleston schools.
