In 1823, he married Nancy Lynch, daughter of Robert Lynch and Mercilla MARTIN Lynch. Nancy was born on the farm they now own. Josiah had a warrant in 1828 in Perry Township that was surveyed and patented on 3 June 1829. In 1838, he moved to Jefferson Township. In 1845, he rented the farm of Robert Lynch, his father-in-law. He bought the farm in 1848. The farm consisted of 160 acres.
In 1840, Josiah served as School Director in Perry Township, Fayette County, PA. In 1865, he was elected Justice of Peace for Perry Township, Fayette County, PA.
In 1872, he became guardian to his grandchildren (children of John and Mary Jane King McIntire) at the death of their father.
Josiah died 13 July 1891 and is buried in Mt. Washington Cemetery next to his wife Nancy LYNCH King. A wonderful description is given of him in a family history by Nettie McDonald. "Grandpap King is what everybody called him, was hale and hearty all his life and even in his 90th year was proud of his ability to mount "Tom" his horse, unassisted in the field or on the road without an upon block. He was a pillar of the Methodist church and never missed a service - and always prayed with his eyes open."
