Orville Lewis Roberts was born at Camargo, Ill, March 10, 1870 and died Wednesday Sept. 12 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell, at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 2 days.
In 1883, at the age of 12, he moved with his parents, brothers and sisters to a farm near Platte where they resided many years. When the town of Platte was founded, they moved into the town, where he and his brother Harry formed a business partnership under the name of Roberts Brothers, which existed until the time of his death.
On December 11, 1918, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Blanche Day of Platte.
He was a member of the city council for four years, a charter member of the Platte Fire Department, being an honorary member at the time of his death, and he was a member of the Doric Lodge, A.F.&A.M.
He leaves to mourn his loss his loving wife, two brothers, Harry Russell Roberts of Platte and P.A. Roberts of San Bruno, Cal.; three sisters, Mrs. Artie M. Smith, Oakland, Cal., Mrs. Anna Richmond Rogers, Morrison, Ill., and Mrs. Sally C. Fulwider, Gregory; and nine nieces and nephews.
His parents, Henry Clay and Ann Elizabeth Roberts, two brothers, Robert M. and Thomas W., both of Tuscola, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Maude Mifflin, Camden, Del. preceded him in death.
Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral services included Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Fulwider, Gregory; Frank Fulwider and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fulwider, Iona; Mr. and Mrs. Neil Slaughter and daughter Donna; Mr. and Mrs. Guy Bennet, Geddes; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kirhoff, Bridgewater; James R. Knox and John Knox, Lake Andes; Mrs. Myron Engers, Morrison, Ill., and Russell Roberts, Oakland, Cal.
