John Powell was the son of Belin and Mary Ann Powell. From the Cape May County Gazette, "After illness of a year and a half, John H. Powell, Sr. died at his home on the Shore rd. here Monday afternoon. He was 60 years old.

Mr Powell was born in Camden, a son of Belin and Mary Ann Powell. He attended public school in that city and in 1901 came here with his parents. They used a horse and wagon in moving here and the trip from Camden consumed two days.

The deceased had been a successful farmer for several years. He was a member of the Court House Methodist Church, the South Seaville grange and the P. O. S of A.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie, and by two daughters and a son: Mrs. Frank Young, Marmora; Mrs. Clarence Moore and John H. Powell, Jr., of Court House.

In addition to six grandchildren, four sisters and two brothers also survive. They are: Mrs. Edward Nace and Mrs. Frank Nace, Collingswood; William H. Powell, Swainton, and I. A. Powell Court House.

Services were held yesterday morning at the Powell residence. Rev. Miller H. Gravenstine officiated and was assisted by Rev. Charles W. Haines. Internment was in the Methodist cemetery here. He was raised on a farm which is now called Parkside in Camden, NJ. He first married Mabel Harris about 1898. They sold the farm in Camden and they moved with his parents to Dennisville. John and Mabel had two daughters Mary Ethel and Dorothy Emma. Mabel died in 1903. In 1910 his second marriage to Eva Brown who he met at Holly Beach now called Wildwood where he was a huckster and they had a son John Jr. He bought his father's farm on 25 AUG 1916. Eva died in 1937 and he third married his first wife's sister, Elsie Harris Karge (buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Camden). John died in 1939 and left the farm to his son John Jr.
