Wife of W. J. Brown

Grandmother Harriett Brown was born August 6, 1856 in Hardin County, Tennessee, the daughter of William Shepard Bevins, age 29 (1827-1900) and Melisa Ann (Nipey) Murchison Ross, age 30 (1825-1867). She first married Levi D. Tatum in 1878 when she was 22 years old and they had one son, Johnie Tatum (1881-1891). Levi Tatum (1859-1890) passed away during the year 1890 in Hardin County, Tennessee, at the age of 31. Their son, Johnie has been referred to as “Little Johnie” as he died early in life at the age of 10 years. I don’t know the day or month he was born or his death. He is buried in Ross Cemetery Hardin County, Tennessee near the home of Mary Jo Brown Johnson. His grave marker was hand made by his half-brother, Lucas A. Brown.

After the deaths of Levi Tatum and Eliza House Brown, Harriett married my Grandfather William James (Billey) Brown (1850-1903) on February 5, 1890 when she was 33 year old. They had 4 sons: William Edgar (1891-1973) age 82, Roy Cecil (1892-1979) age 86, Lucas Alvin (1894-1961) age 67 and Dewey Dixon (1899-1969) age 69. Her husband Billey died 1903 at the age of 53 and she then married the third time to Austin Milton “Milt” Williams who died February 13, 1930, (1850-1930) he is buried at Big Hill Cemetery in Hardin County next to his first wife, Martha Jane Hitt Williams. This made Harriett widow the third time. She continued to live in the Big Ivy Community till her death December 6, 1931 at the age of 75 years. She was buried next to her 2nd husband, Billey Brown, near her home in the Brown Family Cemetery. The only living person I know that remember Grandmother Brown is my brother, James, he was 9 years old when she died. One of her living granddaughter, Jessie Rob Brown Fisher was 4 years old when she died.
