Lucas K. Brown was born on October 9th, 1828 in Tennessee. His parents were Dickson Lafayette Brown, Sr. and Naomi McBride. Lucas K. Brown married Eliza McGee and stayed in Wayne county only a short time after their marriage. They are listed on the 1850 census for Wayne County. William James Brown, the oldest son, being about one year old when the census was enumerated. Shortly after the census, the family moved into Hardin County, Tennessee near what is now the Big Ivy Community. Lucas and family moved with some of the McGee family members. He was at times a "Justice-of-Peace", farmer, store-owner, and later he became a Baptist minister. Lucas was also a Mason (he has a Masonic emblem on his tombstone). About the time that Lucas K. Brown moved into Hardin County, most of the Brown family (his parents and brother and sisters) moved to Webster County, Missouri.

During the Civil War, Lucas K. Brown joined the Wayne County outfit Company D of the 2nd Mounted Tennessee Infantry. This was a Union company. He served with the rank of Sergeant. Lucas was enrolled September 15th of 1863 and honorably discharged at Nashville, Tennessee on February 1st, 1865.

Lucas K. Brown became "well off" in the years following the Civil War. He bought property and became a prominent man in the community and surrounding area. Being a Justice of Peace Rev. Lucas Brown officiated at many weddings in the community.

Every year he would travel to Shiloh for "Memorial Day" services. In May of 1895, he started by horseback to Shiloh. Somewhere down the road he had to turn back because he became sick. The sickness was unto death as he died on May 30th 1895 at his home. His body was interred in the family cemetery near their home place in what now called "Brown Cemetery".
