Ursula Sarah Green was born in Jefferson County, New York, the daughter of Francis and Polly (Stevens) Green.

She first married John C. Ostrander, and they made their home in St Clair, Michigan, where John worked as a farmer. They later moved to Midland with their family. John passed away in 1885.

After John's death, she married Edwin P Jennings, who in 1852 was the first doctor to set up practice in Midland, and who also served as the first county clerk. Dr. Jennings passed away in 1891.

In 1893, she married Benton T. Crippen, and the two of them made their home in New York.
