In 1901, the Colorado Assembly voted to split Arapahoe into three parts: A city and county of Denver, a new Adams County, and South Arapahoe County. So, his birthplace is now located in Denver, Denver Co., Colorado.

J. ROBERT VAN PELT JR., 95, of Sarasota died Friday at Plymouth Harbor [a retirement community].

Born in Denver, Colo., he moved here 13 years ago from Boca Raton. He was a retired president of Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Mich., a U.S. Army veteran of World War I, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a member of the United Nations Association and a trustee of Cornell College. He is survived by one daughter, Ellen Price of Ontario; two sons Peter of Eagle Harbor, Mich., and Richard of Boulder, Colo.; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. National Cremation Society.
