Thomas Joe Acosta, 38, of Navasota was killed after his truck reportedly hydroplaned in the rain Tuesday morning. The accident occured in the 9300 block of SH6 at approximately 5 a.m. as friends believe he was headed to work at Ellwood Texas Forge Navasota. Investigating officers believe the weather may have been a factor. The accident is still under investigation. The accident occurred in front of Aaron's Sales and Lease ownership and Ergo Genesis, LLC in Navasota when his 1996 Chevy pickup may have hydroplaned and flipped, according to Navasota resident and alongtime friend of Acosta's. Darla Flores who drove up on the scene after the accident. Flores said several others stopped to help the victim until they realized the overturned vehicle had landed on top of the driver. Flores said since she could not decipher the model of the truck, which was badly damaged, she worried that the victim could have been her husband who had texted her earlier alerting her of the slick roads. "I was worried because my husband had just text and told me to be careful, because he had hydroplaned", she said. It wasn't raining too hard, but it was consistent. The road seemed pretty slick and I have new tires." Acosta's friend Jamie Alejandro then recognized the victim's rims. "He couldn't have had his seatbelt on but from the look of the wreck it probably wouldn't have mattered," said Flores who added that one of the truck's tires had been completely removed because of the accident.

Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace John LeFlore pronounced Acosta dead at the scene. "He was a good guy and easy to talk to and funny. My husband worked with Thomas and said he always made everyone laugh," said Flores. "Thomas was someone that would always keep you laughing, whether he was doing something funny or making fun of someone else." said his former neighbor Christina Garcia who knew him for about a year. "He was a good dad too. His little girl Tabatha loved her daddy." Acosta also leaves behind a teenage son Thomas Jr. and a daughter named Krysten, according to Garcia.
